The Utah vs Arizona in the first Elite 8 Game | An amazing match was played Monday March 7th between Mesa's Taylor Junior High and Granite's Brockbank Jr. From Taylor, Ethan G. scored 4 points, Devon G. scored 8, Ryan H.scored 12 points and Aaron E. racked up a total of 14 for the Trojans. However, Granite had an incredible second quarter, scoring 21 points and the deficit was just too much for the Mesa team to make up even though they outscored the opposition in the fourth. So Taylor's season comes to an end. At the close of a game the third quarter team often presents a synopsis of our community for the benefit of the students in the other state. The Taylor team was so gracious after their loss and took the time to compliment the Granite team and to wish them well in their journey in the National Tournament. We are proud not only of the academic talent displayed but also of the character shown. |
| Feburary 24th was Wichita NAL All-Star competition and their Championship Game. The All Star was a great event for Wichita NAL students to work with other schools. Teams were ably co ached by Rachel W. (Curtis) in the East and Suzanne H. (Mayberry) in the West. In the end the East team fell to the West by a score of 49 - 32. The championship game started 2 hours later and it was a much closer game. It started somewhat lopsided with Hadley leading at the end of the first quarter 19 to 5 for Wilbur. Wilbur narrowed this gap in the 2nd Qtr and the score was 25 to 17. We had two exceptional 3rd quarter presentations and the separation of the score was further reduced to 46 to 41. In the 4thquarter Wilbur eliminated Hadley's lead and both teams traded the lead position throughout the quarter. This was a real nail biter and in the end Hadley secured the win with a score of 59 to 56. Both teams performed superbly. Wichita has had a great season, and it's not over yet! |
Wichita Public Schools NAL Awards Banquet | The Wichita Public Schools NAL Awards Banquet was held this past Tuesday at the Sedgwick County Extension Office. More than 475 students, parents, coaches, and administrators attended this event. The two narrators for the event, Isabella B. from Horace M., and Alyssa H. from Wilbur both did a superb job. President D. talked about the importance of education and how NAL improves academic success of students. This was an outstanding event to recognize some of Wichita's best. Mr. Gary M., NAL coach at Wilbur Middle School over the past 18 years, was also honored. Gary has also been Wichita's principal district trainer and equipment trouble-shooter. He always has a positive attitude and is ready to help regardless of the task. An integral part of the Wichita team, he promises to continue helping next year after retiring. |
